Athens
Going to Greece?
Some people will tell you to skip Athens and go straight to the Cyclades islands. (After the cab driver from the airport rips you off, you might be tempted.) Are they kidding? And miss out on that big old (really old) building—the Parthenon. And the food! Sit outside one of the many cafes around the city on a nice sunny day and enjoy a fresh, delicious Greek lunch. (Oddly, I never saw any other type of food available in Athens except for a lonely Chinese stir-fryplace.) And especially don’t miss the guards outside the Parliament Building. Masters of the silly walk. The Greeks are the nicest, most accommodating people you’ll ever want to meet (except for the cabbies). And that includes Athenians so enjoy their hospitality.
